Education: Think College Early Web Site: This new Internet resource from the U.S. Department of Education aims to interest middle schoolers in preparing for college. From a department press release: "The TCE Website is designed for students, ages 10 to 14, inviting them to find out about what it takes and means to go to college in a way that makes sense to kids: how their minds work, what they enjoy seeing and how they enjoy seeing it -- in their language and thought patterns. Among the many highlights are specifics on what courses to take in what grades, and the average costs of college on a colored map of the United States, state by state."
Project Java: A collaboration between the Center for High Pressure Research and the Long Island Consortium for Interconnected Learning, both headquartered at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Currently, undergraduate students from the Department of Computer Science and staff from the Center for High Pressure Research at the University are developing interactive Java applets designed for use as instructional tools in Earth Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and related disciplines.
